The village of Øre was the administrative centre of the old Øre Municipality which existed from 1838 until 1965.
==History==
The municipality of Øre was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). On 1 September 1882, a part of the municipality of Fredø (population: 40) was transferred to Øre. On 1 September 1893, the northern part of Øre (population: 226), was used to create the new Gjemnes Municipality. On 1 January 1965, the municipality of Øre ceased to exist when it was merged into Gjemnes Municipality (along with part of Tingvoll Municipality).
